Advisory Services for Neurodivergent Job Seekers: Industry Insight That Opens Doors
Our advisor services are designed to bridge the gap between career goals and real-world industry insight for neurodivergent job seekers. By connecting individuals with professionals across a variety of sectors, we provide access to authentic experiences, unfiltered advice, and guidance that builds confidence and clarity.
What Advisors Offer
Advisors bring lived industry experience to the table. They’re not here to sugar-coat the landscape — they’re here to give honest answers about what it takes to succeed in their field, what challenges are common, and how neurodivergent strengths can be leveraged in unique and valuable ways. From explaining workplace expectations to demystifying jargon, mentors help make the job market less overwhelming and more navigable.
The Power of Informational Interviews
Our advisory network is structured around informational interviews — a low-pressure, conversation-style format that empowers job seekers to ask questions, explore career paths, and better understand workplace environments. This approach helps neurodivergent individuals:
- Test-drive their communication skills in a supportive setting
- Get answers to the questions they really want to ask
- Build a clearer picture of what a day in the job actually looks like
- Learn how to advocate for themselves effectively
Informational interviews are also a great way to identify hidden barriers — and potential accommodations — before someone even enters the job market.
Why It Matters
Too often, neurodivergent job seekers are left guessing about how to break into a field or thrive within it. Advisory services replace that guesswork with grounded, practical knowledge. The result: less anxiety, more informed decisions, and stronger alignment between career paths and personal strengths.
Targeted Advice
Advisors bring specific knowledge or technical insight to help solve a defined problem. Whether it’s understanding how a job application system works, navigating a workplace accommodation request, or choosing between job offers, they offer direct, actionable advice rooted in their area of expertise.
Offer Strategic Guidance
Advisors help you make informed decisions. They assess your goals, challenges, and available options, then guide you toward the most effective next steps — whether that’s networking, training, or shifting focus to a different industry sector.
Share Industry Specific Knowledge
Advisors often come with deep knowledge of a particular field (e.g., tech, trades, healthcare). They can explain:
-
What employers are really looking for
-
How roles are evolving
-
What credentials or skills are most valued
This helps job seekers align their efforts with real-world expectations.
What Advisors are NOT
Advisors are not therapists, life coaches, or emotional support providers. They won’t walk the whole journey with you or focus on personal growth over time. Their role is focused, professional, and typically time-limited — they’re here to help you solve a problem, not unpack your entire life story.
We’re fortunate to have other folks in our network who are advisors for the EmploymentWorks program. If you’d like to learn more about what they do or have questions about their careers, let us know and we’ll connect you!

Paul works in a variety of roles with his most recent involving filming for a children’s puppet TV show, creating e-learning for trades, virtual tours and an honest to goodness Santa Claus!

Michael Plouffe
Millwright and Electrician
Michael worked in a varity of manufacturing jobs before finally making the decision to enter the trades. Having dealt with being dyslexic his whole life and leaving high school at 16, the thought of more education was daunting and scary. Through a lot of hard work and support, Michael has been successfully working in the trades for close to 20 years. The one thing he’d change? Starting earlier!

Jason plays guitar, bass, drums, keyboard and banjo (sort of). He writes, records and produces his own music, Jason Ross. And his music videos? He does all those too 😉 He co-founded Clever Weapon band and is part of the siginging group, Maple Vodka Duo. He also happens to create ausome Christmas videos!
